Niedra's student Jahnavi arrived for class with back pain so those of you in the same boat have the lucky opportunity to join her for a workout designed to bring relief. Niedra begins by explaining how Jahnavi's long torso leaves her vulnerable to weak spots that she suspects are the cause of her pain. Then she takes her through a complete routine with specific tweaks to address any movements that go beyond her comfort zone. After the workout, Niedra gives Jahnavi homework aimed at releasing tension in her hamstrings and thereby her back. Visit Niedra at Spirit Moves.

Thank you so much. I am a PT but I am also exactly like this student to a T. I’m so glad I found this video. Will be doing this everyday. I did have a question though. I couldn’t tell exactly where you had the towel. It looked like it was just above her natural curve?

Thank you Dianna for your post and question – it is a good one. We filmed this a few years ago so I am not sure what exactly happened, but I looking at the photo I suspect I used my intuition with the placement. Often clients are arched higher than the natural curve due to stress and sometimes giving support where they are at helps.
I could also have been helping support her upper back to elongate the lower back. Not sure to be honest.

I really enjoyed that Nidra because you were teaching the kind of client I get all the time. What I really found helpful was seeing how you still managed to get her to work hard without aggravating the back pain. Very interesting to see the use of the towel under the back – another tool to try. Thank you x
