Restorative Mat Warm Up

Watch the preview

Blossom leads a Pilates warm up in the style of her mentor, the late Kathy Grant. These slow, deep movements are a wonderful way to create power and restore alignment and while some of them are Kathy's own invention, she taught them with the goal of perfecting the original Pilates mat repertoire. As you'll discover through Blossom's lead, Kathy Grant was known for the incredibly descriptive (and often funny) cues that she used to get what she wanted from her students. Visit Blossom at her studio in Brooklyn, NY at Bridge Pilates.

Enjoyed these very much. I was lucky enough to start Pilates before so many divisions. Early on I learned some of these from a teacher who originally studied in NY, it would be so great to do a family tree of exercises and see where we got different inputs. That was the best thing about how lelined Pilates, I think you said it here, it was about discovering your body in movement. Thanks for these great bits from Kathy, and thanks for your very warm instruction.

Another great warm up I use for one of my clients who needs to move a little slower. She is doing a cleanse and we are focusing on being gentle and restorative. She is able to achieve more with this warm up. : ) Love, love ,love. Thank you!!

Thank you Blossom! I too have pre-game rituals to check in with my body. The chest work Kathy did was fantastic. Can’t wait to have a lesson with you someday! Best, liesbeth

Blossom you are effervescence come out of a pop bottle. And in a Pilates class, that’s not a bad thing. Laughter makes you work harder.

Blossom, in addition to having one of the most killer headshots on this website (BK all the way!), your workouts are incredible. I love the humor you throw in and it makes working through my quivering abdominals and hamstrings a little easier. To Alisa and Jack, thank you so much for being so open-minded and allowing Blossom to share the work of the great Kathy Grant on your website!

Thanks Martin! Seriously, when I am having a bad day I am going to read my comments here. Pilates is always better with laughter. Thanks for the compliments. I too appreciate Alisa and Jack having Kathy Grant work (and mine) on Pilatesology!
