In this video, MeJo shares her detailed cues and alignment instructions for a variety of exercises that are commonly used on the Pilates Ladder Barrel. For instance, you’ll learn what to look for when first teaching the Swan Dive, and where to place your hands so that your student can feel what you’re asking for. MeJo includes key details like how to increase a stretch without collapsing in the spine, understanding where the frame of the body is and how to correct it if it’s off kilter, why it’s important to keep your eyes open and much more. Further exercises covered in this video include the Horseback, Leg Stretches (aka Ballet Stretches) the Side Stretch (Poisson), Back Stretch, Short Box with Tree, Side Sit Ups with feet on bottom rails as opposed to hooked on ladder as was shown in Intermediate Ladder Barrel for Men. It’s particularly helpful to see the similarities and differences in the ways MeJo works with different body types throughout this series.     Hi Mejo! I have been really into doing your Ladder Barrel series this week and I just have say that I forgot how wonderful draping your back over the arc of the barrel and reaching over for the ladder can feel. Chasing after a toddler can be quite demanding and my need for upper body posture and chest opening is so important, but Ijust wanted to add that your cue to inhale deeply while lying over the arc and lengthening the spine totally gave me a spinal adjustment, I felt and actually heard the veterbrae in my upper spine just pop into place like dominos! thank you!

    Thank you Mejo. I’m loving this series on the ladder barrel and your keen idea for detail. The subtle changes make a huge difference.

    Can you please shed some light on when, if ever, the distance between the ladder and the barrel is adjusted and to what extent? Is it height or body proportions of the waist/leg, or something entirely different? Everyone seems to work on the same ‘setting’, no matter how tall or short the client is. I’ve asked a couple of people at the various conferences, but no-one seems to have the answer… Much appreciated.
