Thank you once again for sharing your experiences and sound advice. It is so reassuring, as a teacher who is very much at tipping point, these video diaries could not have come at a better time. You are an inspiration and I would be interested in knowing a bit more about your business coaching, as I feel a desperate action/leap of faith is needed in order to take my Pilates/life journey to the next chapter. Best Wishes

I am happy to read these comments as this part of the art of teaching is very close to my heart. I do agree that running a business is still over looked in trainings and is essential to supporting up and coming teachers in acquiring the skills to approach teaching successfully. wishing you all much success in your careers.

Thank you Niedra for sharing your knowledge and experience. I relate to many of your thoughts over the last 15 years of owning my studio. Your words should be taught in every teacher training course equally as important as the hundred or the roll-up. Please continue to inspire us with your teaching, thank you!

Niedra’s opinions are interesting. I’m sure much of the content resonates with many teachers. Based on my experience, I would emphasize the differences between having success as a Pilates instructor and being successful in the Pilates business. Operating a successful small business requires a very particular set of skills and interests, only some of which overlap with teaching Pilates. Nothing can crush the spirit (and wreck the credit score) of a great cook like opening a restaurant, and nothing can derail ones love of the work quite like being the signatory to a personal guarantee on a soul crushing 5 year above-market triple-net commercial lease loaded with escalation clauses while legally bound to a partner who posts a constant stream Instagram pictures from their month-long Costa Rica stand-up paddleboarding adventure.
