In this short interview Sean Gallagher tells us all about the history and the making of the book, The Joseph H. Pilates Archive Collection which he and Romana compiled in 1999 and published in 2003. Sean shares about the contents of the book, including photos of Joe Pilates demonstrating step-by-step instructions for individual exercises (including some not represented in Return to Life). The Archive Collection also contains apparatus blueprints, photographs Joe had on the studio walls, and countless other images, documents and texts related to Pilates. After the trademark lawsuit, Sean explains how the Archive Collection became his next attempt to preserve Joe's work and create a reliable source for teachers to refer to for years to come. Visit Sean at Performing Arts Physical Therapy. Our thanks to Elaine Ewing at Rhinebeck Pilates, where this interview was filmed.

Thanks Sean for sharing the behind the scenes on how you made this book. I have had the opportunity of looking through this rare book and always wished I had a copy. So it was exciting to hear that you are working on a new version of it. Thanks in advance for all the hard work you are putting into this.

Can’t wait until this is republished. There is so little of Joe’s work documented and available to us; the information that you have in terms of pictures, film, quotes, equipment, etc is invaluable as we strive to preserve the purity of the Contrology work. I hope that you will continue to share more of the amazing treasures you have 🙂

I would love a copy, when it goes into print. I think Laney , at ‘Pilates Body Shaping’, in Charlotte, N.C. has a copy. I remember thumbing through a book with great pictures, while I waited for my session. <3
