Joe Pilates taught with a very hands-on approach that provided support, stretch and a kinesthetic awareness that teaches the body to move as a system. In this 2 hour workshop you'll learn hands-on pushes and pulls on the Reformer and how to apply them for different needs such as tight vs. hyper-mobile bodies. Alisa also covers safe spotting techniques that build trust and awareness with clients. The best way to learn these techniques is by pairing up with another instructor and giving feedback to each other on how it feels. Our thanks to Hummingbird Pilates where this workshop was filmed. question; on the side splits once I finished with one side should I step off or can I just turn around? also, I am 5’4 do I have to reach from shoulder rest to platform I am using 2 springs and I feel it very hard my gluts are doing all the work thanks

Hi Maigualida! Do not get off the carriage to change for Side Splits–that can be dangerous. When you finish one side you carefully suzy-q the foot on the carriage back toward the springs and maintain control as you step the foot on the frame onto the carriage. Turn toward the springs to turn around and repeat the process in reverse as Shawn does in the video. For your height, you can place a pad on the carriage a few inches from the shoulder block, that’s fine!

finally got to watch this video with no glitches, thanks Jack!
I have been teaching for 15 years and I learned a lot from Alisa and picked up a few new tricks and also from everyone in the workshop as they were practicing on each other.
Thank you for videoing this workshop, really great learning tool.

Thank you so much ladyjane, it’s my goal to spread this work as far and wide as possible. I hope you can put something you learned to work :)!

The top and bottom of the video look cut off to me.

Very much enjoyed observing Alisa at work in this workshop.
She is a wonderful example of how Instructors should hold themselves when teaching!
Hands on Teaching is what Joseph Pilates was all about I always think, but, you need the work in your body to be effective. This was clearly demonstrated in Alisa’s Instruction.
A privilege to observe Kara Wiley demonstrating.
Perhaps, this session could be taken to the mat next time!

Colin you’ll be happy to know we do have a mat version of this workshop coming up :).

Alisa is simply masterful at knowing where the camera is and how to ensure that it is able to capture just the thing she wants to show remaining unobstructed. Filming all those other workshops was great practice! Beautiful job!

Thanks Martin! We definitely have an easy time setting up the camera for easy viewing at Hummingbird Pilates. It’s a lovely studio and just the right size for filming a small workshop like this.

    Hi folks!
We just pulled the other test player from the site so hopefully the videos will revert back to normal and play….
    Sorry for the technical glitch!!

Working now, just have to expand to full screen.

Yes this is bappenong with most of the videos now. It’s like is set for the hearing impaired? There is a CC box appearing on bottom right corner. All I get is the captured photo image of what the video is supposed to be but no video plays. Only sound.

  11. lghammerle

I’m in the same boat with this video as Kerry noted. The last three videos uploaded only play sound. The video doesn’t progress forward-just the still shot and it appears little in the top left corner until you expand to full screen.
