In this Intermediate workout, Brett shares preparatory exercises, hands-on cues and props to help you (and his student Melanie) see where any misalignment is happening in your body so you can understand how to correct it. Join her and you'll enjoy some of the most deliciously decompressing prep work, followed by moves to balance out what you discover. Throughout, Brett guides you in the set up and exercise sequence so you can concentrate on working with length and stability. The session finishes with an explanation of how Brett approached Melanie's particular imbalances to help inform how you can work on your own body going forward. Enjoy! Props: Brett uses a soft overball (a medium size playground ball) and the pole from the Short Box as props in this workout. Visit Brett at BrettHoward.com or his beautiful studio in Jersey City, NJ The Pilates Haus.

Thank you “BIG” time for TEACHING to the needs of your student. I was teaching class to a small mixed level group, at a Highly Acclaimed South Florida Studio. The owner was taking the class. I taught Short Spine Massage, as a progression, as you did. The owner, nastily called me out, in class, as to WHY I was going this way? I wanted to react, but did not. After, I sent her a detailed e-mail of WHY I chose to break it down. Her response was that I did not teach the essence of the exercise. Good news, the client was so happy, and made an effort to let me know that her back felt yummy!
I took a workshop with you in , Florida, not at above studio. I really likes the Vanilla Wafers and marshmallow spine model.
I am taking a class with Jenn Cybuski and auditioning to teach in her studio!
Happy Valentines Day! Big Hugs too!

Fantastic class. And perfect for me as my low back is always tight. Teaser still kicks my butt. And I agree Alisa perfet for those with SI joint issues.

    Thank you Brett.

Love the use of the ball for short spine massage and opening the back for tree! I am so jealous of Melanie getting all of those delicious stretch assists! Thanks Brett! You are a gem!

You know it Alisa! Brett has really provided a few variations which truly offer more space in the lumbar spine.

Brett, this was great! Thank you for all the extras you threw into Melanie’s workout for her lopsidedness. Stepping behind off the reformer (with a lending hand) can be a challenge for anyone, even without a knee problem!
