Take a few minutes to hear Clare's tips for getting more out of the Swan exercise on the Ladder Barrel. One of the tricks you'll learn is how to find two-way action in the body and prevent crunching in the back. Clare also stresses the importance of determining the right length of the barrel by looking at torso length (not just height) in aligning the body. Another lesson she'll engrave in your memory is that Barrels are not just for draping without support - always use abdominal muscles! Visit Clare at Progressive Bodyworks and explore her new program for studio owners Pilates Avatar.

Thanks so much, Clare! Great info on how to really get deeper into, and most out of Swan on the Barrel. Your instructions are always so thorough and clear. Funny, but one of the most challenging things for me about this exercise is sticking to the barrel and not being able to slide on the “shoot out” part. I have tried different fabric pants, putting a towel on the barrel. My clients have this problem too ;/
