I am used to removing the inside springs instead of the outside springs for frog and leg circles… is there any reason to specify using the inside springs?

    • Andrea Maida Author

Hi Heather – Thanks so much for your question – it is a good one. Yes, there is a reason that I specify to remove the outside springs leaving the 2 inside springs on for Frog and Circles.
The main reason is that we are planning for the future: I will explain.
Usually – for exercises that use 2 springs – we set up the springs symmetrically – either 2 on the inside or 2 on the outside. Likewise, for exercises that use only 1 spring, we hope to achieve the same kind of symmetry by choosing 1 middle spring vs. 1 spring on the outside. Using the 1 spring in the middle is better for the symmetry of our bodies and also for the life of our apparatus.
So. I hope you are still with me πŸ™‚
Our selection of 2 middle springs for Frog and Circles is in anticipation of next going to 1 spring when we get to the Rowing (which is not an exercise Joe does in this video – which is why I say we are planning for the future – for Joe to continue his Pilates lessons, eventually reach the Rowing series and now he’ll already know the set up from day 1). I hope this makes sense. Now, is it a disaster to have 2 outside springs on for Frog and Circles? No, of course not. This is a finessing of the transition, let’s say. I like to think of this anticipation just like the way you remove the springs in the Stomach Massage Series (ending this series with 2 outside springs) in anticipation of eventually doing Semi Circle a few exercises later when you need the springs to be a certain way for your bottom to make its way into the springs…
I hope I was able to answer your question! And thank you so much for watching!! xox

I had this playing when my husband was home on a Sunday afternoon… he walked by, noticed Joe and I said, “oh look, you can let her teach you….,wouldn’t that be nice?” I think he heard you call your husband’s name and thought I called him. (his name is Jim) Nice flow of workout with all the perfect amount of cues for limited attention spans πŸ™‚ I joke, not too wordy, but so many great set-up cues! Thanks guys!

      Angel,

Thank you so much for your lovely message. That video is the most instruction at one time that I have given Joe – I was certainly conscious that it was a video that people would need to follow so I had to say something, but I wanted to not overload him with chatter to the point where he was annoyed with his wife correcting his every move – LOL. Always a delicate balance, so I thank you for your feedback, truly appreciated. And funny that Jim perked up at hearing Joe πŸ™‚ Thank you for watching and sharing your comments.

Thank you Andrea. Great work with your husband. Never easy to teach your own family. I teach my daughter on a weekly base πŸ™‚

Thanks Reiner! Good for you – You are right, teaching family or your spouse can be challenging. This video is the most instruction I have given to my husband – ha ha. Usually he does the Mat with his list, but I hope he will do some more Reformer on his own too πŸ™‚ Thank you so much for watching and sharing your comments πŸ™‚

Loved the giggles brought on by the Knee Stretch Series because if we weren’t laughing we’d be crying! Excellent work both of you.

    • Andrea Maida Author

Thank you so much pilatesgal50. Yes, I often like to refer to the knee stretches as “the beginning of the end.” That kinda makes me laugh too πŸ™‚ Thanks for watching and for sharing your comments – Joe did such a great job on his Reformer…ha ha our poor husbands!
