Michael leads this workshop with the idea that Pilates was created on a man's body. As a teacher you'll learn ways to deepen the work for men and your clients will get appreciate the extra attention to the shoulders and legs. Joe Pilates trained boxers (he had a glass eye from a boxing match himself) and Michael teaches several exercises that were used to keep boxers necks strong using a simple foot strap and leg springs. The workout finishes with some well-deserved hip stretches over a Small Barrel for his student, Pilatesology's Jack Coble. Apparatus: Cadillac or Tower/Wall Unit; Small Barrel; Ankle/Leg Weights, Neck Stretcher or Neck Tensometer Michael substitutes a Foot Strap from the end of the Cadillac. Filmed at Pilates Challenge on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to view this! Michael you’re the ultimate communicator. Straightforward, clear and practical, ie; the walking reference. Even with 20 years of teaching experience I’m still looking for the most concise cues for my clients. Keep their minds alert and not overwhelmed. Thank you!… BTW, wish you were MY trainer!

Absolutely fantastic workshop, I teach a lot of men and this was a wonderful tutorial on ways to address tightness in the hips/hip flexors. Really wonderful! Thank you.

Daniel I talked with Alisa and that video is placed in the wrong section. It should be a workshop lecture not a workout video. So sorry to confuse you. I viewed it again myself and agree with your comments. It’s not a workout video. all my best and thanks again for all your messages

My suggestion is to change verbiage from catch phrases like “push me away, push me away” to saying exactly what you mean like “hands to the feet, hands to the feet” or whatever. Also there are times when even the guy on the table gets confused. “I want your feet to the bars”. So he is saying where he wants the feet to end up when it would be more helpful to hear a series of instructions like “sit up, slide your feet forward to face the bars and the touch bars with your feet. Hands up . . . ” etc.

I hope my notes are helpful. Thank you.

Thanks For all the time you put into your comments duly noted. I have taken an extended break due to concussion, I hope you have found the instructions helpful and I apologize for it not being a workout style video and to your liking!!

I find this class frustrating to work out to because while he does an exceptional job talking about what the exercise is supposed to be doing, he misses so many auditory cues for what I should actually be doing. This necessitates the need for me to constantly be craning my neck to watch my video screen rather than focusing on my body and the actual workout. This would be a great teacher instructional video but not a good video to work out to.

Great class. I teach mens reformer and tower classes and they are popular . My students are no where near as athletic, but still found it very useful. Please can you do more videos just for men!! also for less athletic and inflexible men!! that’s my clientele. Hard to find videos and classes specifically for the male body. I’m always looking for ideas, so keep your videos coming please!!

The whole Pilates program was geared towards corrective exercises for men. For the time period he was in. The dancers and women came later when he moved to the US.

my favorite parts of your classes are the guidance you provide to activating the powerhouse, corebody. Using the legs in so many exercises is crucial and I always secretly used my legs when instructors were cuing me NOT to. haha disobedient I know but I always felt it helped me find the work. Thanks again! great stuff. oh and I laughed at your standing double leg stretch demo. 😀

I noted some 25 plus exercises are how to work them in your body. So much of this goes to the mat. It is outstanding stuff Mr Johnson! Not to forget Mr Jack Coble superb demonstration. Look out Alisa your man is catching up!!

I agree Jack is becoming a semi-pro Pilates Practioner. He watch enough lessons to write a text book on the Pilates method. Yes this stuff applies to the mat workout. Take away the springs and there you have it. Mat work.
