Back bends have the surprising effect of happiness, positive mood and extraversion. How can we get these results with our clients? In this workshop, Niedra demonstrates backbending progressions starting with very basic ones all the way to advanced back extensions. To help you understand exactly what your clients need, she begins by covering the joints involved and how to identify when one part of the body is lacking in necessary range of motion. You'll then work through specific building blocks aimed at opening up and strengthening those stuck spots. She finishes by showing several advanced back extensions that illustrate how those building blocks create the skills to make bigger moves feel fantastic. Thank you for a great question Maiogualida, Scoliosis spotting and programming is very specific so I cannot answer this question without seeing the client and knowing their history. so I apologize in advance. Conceptually ( I am optimistic in my expectations) I would say yes, if the client knows how to control theri physiology and knows how to self correct, or have a teacher assisting them in making sure they activate the weak parts of their spinal movement. It takes a lot of attention. If the client does not have an educated relationship with their body, then no- as just “doing the exercise” will mean the over strong part of their body takes over and the weak part works even less.

Great question though – thank you.

That was a fantastic workshop, thank you very much. What i wouldn’t give to have your eyes and strong hands for adjustments on my body Niedra. Your hands on correcting and spotting appear to be so firm and precise that your expertise is so obvious. Very much appreciated. Thanks for all our sharing.

Thank you Tracy, I really appreciate your comments. I hope to teach at the pilatesology studio at some point in the future, so perhaps if you are in the area I should get a chance to work with you. Or have you come participate in a new workshop. in the interim, I can tell you love to work out, and learn, so enjoy your journey.

I initially looked into this workshop because of the CEC’s for PMA I could get by completing it, but it has opened a whole new world of knowledge and application for me. The part of the workshop that I applied immediately was the range of movement in the shoulders and arms. I hadn’t considered how closely ROM in the pectoral girdle is tied to back extensions. I started by “practicing” on my 65 year old husband who played college basketball on scholarship (he is an excellent athlete) and has continued to play basketball recreationally. He was so tight in his shoulders that I needed to start him with a thera-band before the gondola pole. At 6’5″ tall he has a long wing span and he couldn’t get the pole over his head with his arms straight. It’s exciting that he has seen immediate improvement in his back, shoulder, and arm mobility. I would love to attend one of Niedra’s workshops some day. Her hands on techniques and knowledge of how the body moves are very evident through her teaching of this back extension workshop. Cheers, Jeri

I found this workshop incredibly helpful . Not only has it helped me already with my own practice but it has improved my understanding and teaching of back extension enormously. I do hope there will be more like this from Niedra. It is also very helpful to see her teach bodies that are not perfect. So often workshops online use very flexible students which is not always the case in the real world.

    Thank you Niedra and pilates.ology
