At the end of this Reformer session, your body will move like a Mercedes. Michael’s talent lies in taking the extraneous movement out of each exercise until you are moving purely from your center. Follow his student Lauren on a journey in which there are no giveaway exercises, and no places to rest. It’s not a trip for the weak at heart or those who aren’t willing to work hard, but the results are immediate. Be sure to have a towel handy, unless you’re working in a freezer, you will surely need it. Filmed at American Body Tech, Kathryn Ross-Nash’s Allendale, NJ studio. Thanks to our model, Instructor Lauren Montefusco of Pilates Perfection and Massage in Greenwich, CT.

I love this workout! The Lady, really, is moving like a small Fiat, but it does NOT MATTER:) She has proved so lazy and reserved in other videos by KRN, for here she can show off!!!!

    • I was actually just sitting on my LAZY and RESERVED Pilates bottom today watching some new things and came across this post for a few months ago! Thank you for your wonderful criticism, I am sure that your Pilates practice is far superior to a Mercedes! In my almost 23 years doing the Method, and over 17 years teaching, I have have been fortunate and very blessed to have had and continue to work with some of the most amazing instructors…..God Bless You!

This is fantastic. Michael you deliver your craft with such ease. Your way of articulating with out being condescending. I love that you help your client find the deeper connection not leaving her to *find it on her own. YOU are teaching to your student. A real teacher inspiring,, motivating, challenging, delivering the message in a clear ideal so the student feels his caring presents. She is a lucky lady to work with this guy! His knowledge of movement is astounding. LOVE LOVE LOVE his work. Its obvious she has found and solidified her work within her body with your guidance. WOW. Thank you for this clip into your teaching practices Michael. You’ve enlighten me as a student and a student teacher. There’s no place for ego when wanting to teach at this level. You are a beautiful example of knowledge and grace. Coming from a elite gymnastics background, professional soft tissue worker, and movement specialist. The opportunity to now teacher Pilates late in my career is so much fun. The genius of what Joe left to us is so beautiful it is a shame so many do not understand its power and how it changes lives for the better moment to moment.. Thanks again! I hope your do more video’s to share your expertise.

I’m glad I tried this class. I am going to do it everyday this week. Your cues are just different enough to make it refreshing after over 10 years of practice and over 5 of teaching. I would love to take one of your classes or workshops in person. You have a very positive way of teaching and getting what you want out of your students. This is a goal I aim for in each of my classes.

Still one of my favorite workouts. ‘Feel your core’ the day after Thanksgiving, and this set certainly helps to keep the holiday ‘creep’ under control.

My lungs and tissue got such a wonderful workout with your cues and emphasis on opening the upper spine with downstretch, upstretch, elephant, knee stretches and even running. Dont think I ever looked at some of these as “breathing” exercises (other than downstretch). Thanks for such wonderful insight into our internal heaters! And I realize you don’t really look like Ray Romano in person but the videos are not as clear as live so I almost expect you to throw in a few jokes once and a while… 🙂

I am glad you picked up on the emphasis of breath and the importance upper spine. In person and for those who know me would say that, I am a very funny person and humor is always welcome in my life. But for filming purposes I kept it informative. I also don’t know who Ray Romano is. thanks for your comments and for watching. Mj

      • pilatesangel 8 years ago

Well, I did giggle at the blooper at the end, so I guess that counts. Ray Romano is a famous comedian who had his own sitcom for many years and he has been in some movies. No worries, it is a compliment. Thanks for your challenging classes!

Beautiful! Great teacher and great student! Thank you both for your hard work!

This is so educational and so evocative! “Opening up the container,” “fill the lungs like they are spinnakers,” and all the other analogies are so helpful. Thanks so much for making this class available to us at home.

The detailed Instruction on “how to” use proper technique and form to achieve results within each exercise using the Pilates Method, was it seems to me as a mat person I hasten to add, taught and demonstrated here at its best. This is teaching excellence is it not. Thank you very much Mr Johnson and your assistant Lauren.

Thanks so much for your support and to Lauren for her effort in this video. Even as a mat practitioner ther is so much you can learn from the other equipment. Take care MJ

      • Thank YOU, Michael!! It was amazing to film with you. It was a pleasure watching as well! I have learned more about my body by seeing it in action!! Great video 🙂 Hope to see you again soon!!
