Chris Robinson might be well-known as Oprah's Pilates Trainer but he wants to spread the news that Pilates is great for building a man's body too. For his first workout with Pilatesology, this 2x Muay Thai Kickboxing Champion shares his own upper body routine. Chris begins with a basic set of 5 standing arm spring moves that push into the spring, and then turns around for moves that pull, to set the body up for the more advanced moves to come. Next, he links it all together in a complete upper body complex, finishing with a killer set of push ups both with and without the traditional Pilates Push Up Device. Guys—after this workout you'll be ready to roll up your sleeves and show off those 'guns.' Visit Chris at Stretch Strength Control Gym in San Diego, CA where this class was filmed. NOTE: The Standing Arm Springs can be done using a Cadillac, Wall Unit (often called Tower), or Guillotine, Chris shows them here using a Wall Unit.

Wow! Loved this! Great point about the male client not inspired by “long lean muscles.” Your stress on how the chest and arms must be secondary to a long spine is so important. Thanks!

This was fantastic!!!! The cue to lengthen the spine was so simple and yet incredibly important. Pulled everything together. Loved this!!! Can’t wait to see more of Chris:)

Thank you Chris! I relate to your story. I came to Pilates as an athlete and lost a bit of muscle as well. Love your style and explanation!

Love this workout Chris. I agree that with you that gaining control of your movements is key. I also don’t feel nice when working out with weighs now I am studying the Pilates method, but still want to feel like I’m preserving and gaining strength. Would love some more videos like this 🙂 thank you.

Great instruction Chris. You have a great sense of what Joe was conveying in his work, especially when working with men. It’s good to see another male instructor who gets it.
Thank you for sharing your expertise.
