When learning Pilates, it’s common to have a lot of tension in the shoulders and students often struggle when learning to keep the shoulders down and chest open. In this session, Junghee presents techniques for understanding how to find the proper placement of the shoulders and arms. Working with Gwen, who has very loose shoulder joints that need to be strengthened and connected to her center, Junghee uses several different apparatus to teach this skill: the Cadillac, Baby Arm Chair and Reformer. Beginning with a basic position of lying down on a mat, Junghee progresses Gwen through exercises and apparatus that change her body position and help to build body awareness in how to properly use her shoulders.
