If you're used to practicing on a contemporary Reformer, the switch from ropes to leather straps can be confusing. Alisa clears things up with tips that will make you an expert in minutes. Her tips include where to put your body during Pull Straps & T and how to grip the strap; Rowing Tricks like how to keep straps from getting stuck between the shoulder blocks; how to set up for feet in the straps and why it's ok when the straps touch the blocks during Leg Circles. Filmed at Pilatesology Studio in Hermosa Beach, CA.

Can u also talk abt strap length pls

    • Alisa Wyatt Author

      Hi Madhavi,
The strap length setting on a traditional Reformer always remains the same– the leather end of the strap (not the handle) should reach 1.5 inches past the shoulder block when it’s pulled straight on the carriage. Be careful not to move the carriage to take this measurement as that will change the length. Does that answer your question? If you’d like more info, let me know!

Alisa, you read my mind! I’m beginning my transition to all Gratz equipment and my reformers arrive in 2 weeks!!! I love these “helpful hints” tutorials. I’ve been learning so much about the classical work. Pilatesology is the bomb! I also really enjoy the interviews. Thanks!

Oh Gilann that is so exciting!!! Thank you for watching and I’m planning a bunch more of these videos like how to know what springs to use when transitioning from colored springs, etc. Please let me know if you have any questions and I’ll do videos on them.

What is the general rule for gear bar position and use of the block? Is this the position from which I measure the straps? Thx!
