How Often Should I Practice Pilates?

how often should i do pilates

So you’ve fallen in love with Pilates but aren’t sure how often you should be doing it to feel results. Sound familiar?

I get asked this question all the time by people just starting out, seasoned Pilates veterans & teachers, and everyone in between!

All bodies & goals are different and the answer can vary from person to person; ie: do you mix up your workouts and cross train? Are you a runner? Do you have any conditions or injuries?

In my years of experience, I follow a magic rule of 3.

Depending on your needs, a safe bet is to follow the goal of 3 classes per week. This gives you the flexibility to decide if you can handle more or cut it down. Be gentle with yourself and take time to understand your body!

Practicing Pilates 3x a week will help you feel better, get stronger, improve your flexibility, and gain all of the amazing benefits that come with the practice.

Consistency is key!

The more consistent you are in your practice, the quicker you’ll see and feel the results.

I recommend starting with a 3x per week goal and tailor it to you and your needs from there!

So, what should these workouts consist of?

The best part of building your practice is making it work for you.

You can fit your workouts in where you can, because even just 10 minutes will give you incredible results.

In terms of equipment & type of workout, mix it up where you can!

Pilates mat work provides a deep connection to you and your body, with limited props and assists. You can take it with you anywhere!

The apparatus work (Reformer/Cadillac/Wunda, etc) offers opportunities to support, load and challenge your body in a variety of different ways. Bodies need variety to learn and get stronger!

Mix up your Pilates classes for the best results – even if that means adding arm weights or a Magic Circle
