Kathryn Ross Nash explains in detail how to use an original Pilates mat for an Intermediate level workout. (You can find a mat like the one used here at Gratz Pilates). She goes slowly through each exercise giving hands-on help to her student Ernesto as she explains the foundational movements that make up the basics of each exercise and how to begin incorporating them together as the body you're working with begins to advance. For teachers and enthusiasts looking to discover the inner workings of the mat work, there's much more here than simply learning the goals of the exercises as Kathi shares her wealth of knowledge for different types of bodies and how to use the apparatus for the fullest benefit. After you've absorbed all you can in this class, try putting it to work in the Flowing Intermediate Mat that follows this one--you'll complete everything you do in this session in a quick 27 minutes! Kathi your understanding of the work is astonishing, that you can squeeze ‘that much more’ into the practice of a fellow instructor, Ernesto who is absolutely awesome, fabulous and accomplished. Loved the hip and shoulder corrections, working to stay out of the joint, working to find space in the body.

Absolutely fab.Can we have the same for the reformer? it’s great to be able to go through all these little details even though you have done Pilates for a long time,it’s amazing how you keep finding new connections

And the Oscar goes to….!!! That was awesome. I laughed out loud (more than once) but still learnt a lot. Such fun to learn while you laugh, not just learn to laugh – Pilates teachers can be too serious some times.

Kathi, do you have a specific/preferred order that you like to introduce the intermediate exercises? There seem to be differing opinions on this topic.

Thank you both for generously sharing on all levels.

There is a suggested order to add but it is only to be used as a baseline of understanding
The reason there is no set order as the work is tailor made for the individual
You challenge what is strong and strengthen what is weak.
      Hope this helped!
As I totally believe in FUN!!!;)
I adore this work and it is fun to do and teach !!
      I ADORE Ernesto to bits!!!

Who said you can’t learn the Method with just a mat! This is the “real” methodology!!
