Honoring Jay Grimes

With deep sadness, we are sharing the news of Jay Grimes’ passing. As a friend and mentor, his wholehearted support of Pilatesology motivated us to create a place where the legacy of Pilates could be recorded and passed on to those who won’t have the chance to experience it in person.

Our hearts go out to the Vintage Pilates team and community, you gave Jay the respect and admiration he deserved. ❤️

Jay has influenced me in my own personal Pilates journey in the most profound way. My lessons with Jay were fun and motivating, he taught me to pay attention to myself and to not get worked up about things. Which is an incredible life lesson that goes far beyond Pilates!

Jay’s willingness to be a part of Pilatesology changed the trajectory of our company. What was originally intended to be a website where my clients could do workouts with me on vacation, has become a way to capture and preserve what I know to be the essence of Pilates. Jay’s enthusiasm for this project made it happen.

It’s so wonderful to see Jay’s teaching reaching more and more people over the last 10+ years with Vintage. Now there are teachers in the farthest parts of the world teaching the highest quality Pilates with zest and intuition. That means there are thousands and thousands of practitioners living better lives with more confidence and vibrancy because Jay shared what he learned from the source.

Thank you, Jay, for being willing to record what you know and make it available to the world, your trust is something I cherish and hope to always honor in what we do.

“Do Pilates because you love your body, not because you hate it,”

We’ve compiled some of our favorite, most cherished interviews with Jay below. ❤️ I encourage you to explore more of Jay’s teachings on Pilatesology. I’ve taken hundreds of lessons with Jay and during each workout he shared with me significant details about Pilates: stories of the original studio, quips about Clara & Joe Pilates and the expert touch and clarity that I recognized from lessons with other First Generation teachers.
