In this workshop aimed at teachers, Sonjé Mayo shares a deeper understanding of what she refers to as the Vertical Pelvis. In it Clare and her student Joe Giordano demonstrate a complete repertoire of exercises aimed at knee and hip rehab. When Joe first came to Clare he was in need of hip replacement surgery and was having extreme difficulty walking. Pilates has helped him to recover his ability to walk and has prepared for his upcoming surgery. Clare shares her strategy behind how she approaches knee and hip issues like Joe’s, why the Reformer might not be a good choice when dealing with injured lower extremities, and a complete plan for rebuilding strength and balance without risking further injury. Frequently Pilates is used as a post-physical therapy treatment for spondylolisthesis. Using MRIs and models, Sonjé Mayo explains what this spondylolisthesis is and why hyperextension of the lumbar spine is contraindicated. Osteoporosis
This 2 hour workshop covers the causes and consequences of the ’silent disease’ known as osteoporosis. Not all exercise is appropriate for people with osteoporosis due to the fragility of their vertebrae. Learn about the optimal exercises and life changes that are required to live with osteoporosis.

As a teacher, you see common issues over and over again. In this workshop, Sonjé Mayo teaches how to identify what is going on behind these issues and how to fix them using cues and props that she experienced directly from Joe Pilates when she studied with him as a young dancer in the 1960s. You’ll learn ways to identify 3 types of spines that can help to simplify your teaching, as well as how to align the body for each type and how to keep it aligned as your client moves. You’ll come away with specific cues and props to strengthen your clients in a way that eliminates these common problems and helps them move to the next level.
The details that go into a traditional ending in Pilates are designed to leave a client feeling successful, uplifted, elated, aligned, strong and flexible all at once. In this workshop Alisa covers the elements that make up a great finish to a session for all levels of clients and then demonstrates several often-forgotten endings on the mat as well as on the Ladder Barrel, Electric Chair and Cadillac.
In this workshop aimed at teachers, you’ll learn how to apply hands on cues to a client’s individual body needs. Beginning with the mat work, Alisa shares techniques she has learned from First Generation teachers Romana Kryzanowska, Kathy Grant and Jay Grimes on how to push, pull, spot, and assist your clients while reducing the need for verbal cues. You’ll learn where to put your hands, how to position your own body, what to look for, and how much pressure to apply (hint: it depends on the person, you will learn best by practicing with a friend and asking for feedback).
Joe Pilates taught with a very hands-on approach that provided support, stretch and a kinesthetic awareness that teaches the body to move as a system. In this 2 hour workshop you’ll learn hands-on pushes and pulls on the Reformer and how to apply them for different needs such as tight vs. hyper-mobile bodies. Alisa also covers safe spotting techniques that build trust and awareness with clients. The best way to learn these techniques is by pairing up with another instructor and giving feedback to each other on how it feels.
Teachers, do you struggle with structuring your sessions? In this mini workshop, Molly shares tips on timing your sessions and how and when address your client’s individual needs. Molly then demonstrates options for the last (and most difficult to figure out) part of the workout – Part C – in which you address your client’s individual needs and add an ending.
