Discover how the exercises in your own workout tie together through Kathryn Ross Nash’s brilliant parallels. You’ll find that Pilates is more than just a list of exercises, it’s a recipe to change bodies. Kathi developed The Red Thread™ as a way to explain the method of Pilates to instructors and also to give students a way to learn. It’s a theory: a thread of thought or connection that runs through every exercise in the work; red to represent blood and circulation. Kathi demonstrates how the matwork is the heart and soul of Pilates—the ultimate goal. The apparatus are tools to get you to that goal and this workshop will help you design a recipe for the body in front of you. You can find the apparatus used in this workshop at: Gratz Pilates. Filmed at the Arizona Classical Pilates Conference 2012, organized by The Pilates Core. For info on training with Kathi visit:

This was so informative especially when she focused on foot alignment. I am a dancer and a beveled foot or “winged” foot is the aesthetic that we usually go for. Naturally, I’ve taken that into my Pilates practice. I’ve had a few teachers mention it, but this video really explains why correct foot alignment is important. Thanks Kathi!

I was a dancer as well and I learned sooooo much just by watching my body change as the alignment changed! Joe was a GENIUS!

Hi Kathi, great work. So much more to learn (on my side)! It would be great to have more of this workshop work you do, here on pilatesology. Thank you.

I always thought how amazing it is, the way Pilates helps the body develop some kind of clairvoyance, an inner sense of balance, its kinaesthesis. I mean guiding the body through movements that activate in sequence different parts and in different positions in space it’s like awakening and cultivating its ability to anticipate a random and perhaps unrelated action (like the slip and fall you mentioned) and use without thinking the right kind of muscles to avoid or recover an injury. Pilates makes us move from the conscious to the unconscious, all we have to do is practice, practice, practice!
I cannot thank you enough Kathi for sharing this wisdom so clearly and in so many details, it makes me never want to stop studying more!

Learned a great deal from observing Kathi teach so many “key” points for me as a simple mat practitioner. The importance of the Matwork in the Method. The explanation about finding the Powerhouse (the buzz word Core!) and defining so clearly the meaning of Flat Back was brilliant. The demonstration of the Toe Corrector – so much in a simple exercise, which I have never seen demonstrated and explained like this before. So much to take to my mat practice – thank you very much Kathi and PILATESOLOGY for making all this available.

This was awesome. Love, love, loved the foot corrector work towards the end and how you explained how you see it all fitting together. I have seen you present the Red Thread before and cannot wait to see you present again! Thank you for sharing.

I wonder who the girl who couldn’t tap into her abs in spine stretch forward was.. ;-). Thank you for breaking down the exercises. There is nothing like this in any of the schools that I’ve trained in. This is the depth that I’ve been looking for all these years. Can’t wait to work with you again, you are truly gifted!!!

Absolutely awsome! Really informative and helpful in connecting the dots (and excercises). To properly absorb all the info I had to replay some sections and really think about what Kathi was saying, so suggest other viewers consider setting aside a little more than the hour and 20 minutes.
In the words of Oliver Twist: “Please sir, can I have some more?”

    • Kathi Ross Nash Author

OHHHHHHHHHHHH Thank you so much!!!! I am thrilled you liked it! The Red Thread is my baby… I am beyond thrilled that you liked it. I never can teach it the same twice- there is SO MUCH to the method! so much work- so little time!!!!!
