In this Guillotine overview video, MeJo takes Miriam and Alisa through some of the exercises that can be practiced on the versatile and exhilarating Guillotine or as Joe called it, the “Gym in a Door.” Using the sliding bar in the center of the apparatus is a challenge because you have to work evenly to keep the bar straight. Despite it’s ominous name, this fun and somewhat rare apparatus never fails to bring a smile to the lucky body who gets to play on it. Basic skills taught include: Tower. Monkey, Teaser, Semi-Circle, Side Bends, Stand Leg Stretches, Tense-o-meter for the neck plus alternate exercises for those with weaker necks, Standing Arm Series for the men, Squats and more. Filmed at Alycea Ungaro’s Real Pilates™, New York, NY.

    Great review for me about Guillotine! I got some new info from what I learned from Romana in this. Thank you Mejo. Mejo has got even stronger voice and energy like Romana. I can hear Romana’s energy voice through her. This is incredible teaching. Surly, Mejo has studied with Romana for long time as I can see from her teaching. She uses great energy and simple clear cuing without too much explanation just like Romana. What I love about Mejo’s teaching is that she really teaches using body correctly for the person. Not about teaching just techniques to the person. There is a difference. And I love her cheerful energy with trust to the person. This is how the real good teachers do and all Pilates teachers have to learn not only technique. Again, THANK YOU MEJO.

    Alternative Neck Stretcher exercise. Towards the end, the exercise you had Miriam (sp!) demonstrate that you use for older ladies, is this your own innovation? It is very effective.

    THANK YOU!!! I just got a guillotine and and haven’t had an opportunity to use one at another studio, so I’ve just been playing around with tower stuff, and after watching Romana’s DVD, It all seemed to advanced for me, this really gave me what I need to start to feel comfortable, and seriously challenged!! YAY!
