Formerly a marathon runner, Beth was diagnosed with a connective tissue after running her sixth marathon and developing persistent injuries. Her rheumatologist recommended that she try Pilates as a way of stabilizing and strengthening her joints. While at first she was skeptical, Beth soon found herself benefiting from her Pilates and even enjoying the work! She decided to become a Pilates instructor, because there often were no subs available for the classes she took. She originally intended to get one Pilates Mat certification and stop, but the more she learned, the more she wanted to know, and one certification led to another. Beth currently holds her Comprehensive Pilates certification from Peak Pilates in addition to her Beginner and Intermediate Mat certifications from Power Pilates. She also obtained her Booty Barre ® certification and her AFAA group fitness certification. In 2014, Beth began her studies toward the D*M*I* Master’s in Pilates Teaching, and she looks forward to a life of continued learning and study. She has enjoyed working with injured individuals and seniors as well as young professionals and athletes. Prior to living in Olympia, Beth owned a full service Pilates Studio, Three Anchors Studio, in Baldwinsville, New York. Beth now works full time outside of her studio; Eastside Pilates is thus open only by appointment. Beth's primary occupation is as a college music professor; in addition to her studies in Pilates, Beth holds a BM, MM, and DMA in Music Composition. Beth enjoys printmaking, knitting, and cooking. Beth’s Pilates mentors have included Nancy Hurd, Peak Pilates teacher trainer and student ofLolita San Miguel, and Vicki Hickerson, Power Pilates teacher trainer and student of RomananKryzanowska and Bob Liekens.
