THE DOUBLE WORKSHOP: HOW PILATES WORKS THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM WITH SEAN GALLAGHER AND ARCHIVAL CUING AND EXERCISES WITH ELAINE EWING SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2017 | 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM $250.00 PER PERSON LOCATION: THE NEW YORK PILATES STUDIO IN NYC These two mini-workshops will be 3 hours each, with Sean Gallagher teaching “How Pilates Works the Lymphatic System” and Elaine Ewing teaching “Archival Cuing and Exercises”. We will take an hour lunch break. How Pilates Works the Lymphatic System with Sean Gallagher “Contrology is specifically designed and conducted to arouse sluggish blood, distend every capillary, force lymph through every interstice: by stretching every muscle and sinew and wringing out the body All under the strict control of the awakened brain in each of its ten billions of nerve cells.” – Joseph H. Pilates This workshop will be a review of the lymph system to gain an understanding as to how Authentic Pilates can facilitate the normal function of the lymph and other fluids of the body to improve health and the immune system Archival Cuing and Exercises with Elaine Ewing Experience and learn many well-known exercises in the Pilates Method as Joseph Pilates originally created, cued, and taught them. Discover that quite a few exercises and cues were originally done differently! Elaine will teach historical exercises and Joseph Pilates’ hands on cues on the Reformer, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair, then give time to participants to practice doing and teaching the exercises. We will discuss how these historical moves can fit into our own practice, how and when we can use them when teaching our clients, and why the exercises have been changed over time. Gallagher (BFA, PT, CPT, CFP, EMT, MS) is the owner and master physical therapist of Performing Arts Physical Therapy, as well as a master pilates teacher and Teacher of Teachers at his studio in NYC, The New York Pilates Studio®. He developed the first teacher training manual along with Romana Kryzanowska for Authentic Pilates™ and was instrumental in getting the Pilates method recognized and taught around the world. Sean is also the owner of the largest collection Joseph Pilates’ archival material and has three published books, “The Pilates Method of Body Conditioning” , “The Collected Works of Joseph Pilates” and “The Joseph H. Pilates Archive Collection”. Sean has also been teaching pilates at Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, MA for 17 years. About Elaine Ewing Elaine is owner of Rhinebeck Pilates, a classical pilates studio located in the center of Rhinebeck village since 2003. She is a certified Authentic Pilates teacher through the New York Pilates Studio, by Sean Gallagher and Junghee Won. She has studied and practiced pilates extensively through workshops and classes taught by master teachers of the Classical Pilates Method such as Sean Gallagher, Junghee Won, MeJo Wiggin, Steve Giordano, Bob Liekens, Leah Chaback Katz, and Simona Cipriani, to name a few. Elaine can be found on Pilatesology, the leading online educational video resource for classical pilates, as the model for a number of Junghee Won’s and Sean Gallagher’s instructional videos.
