Double Workshop: The Developmental Sequence in Joe’s Work w/Sean Gallagher and Joe’s Springs and Cuing on the Cadillac w/Elaine Ewing
Sun April 08 - Sun April 08

The Developmental Sequence in Joe’s Work With Sean Gallagher: Joe Pilates states numerous times in his writings that he looked at people and animals to help develop his method of body conditioning. In the 1940’s and 1950’s the physical therapy profession started to do the same process of looking at how humans learn to move in an effort to develop methods to facilitate and help those who were injured, had delayed development as infants or had a stroke or other neurological impairment. The developmental sequence was analyzed and integrated into certain therapy protocols especially for working with infants. In this workshop we will: • Explore what the developmental sequence is. • Gain an understanding of why it should be in any exercise regime. • See how Joseph Pilates was 50 years ahead of his time by including this process into his method of exercise. • Develop an appreciation of how Pilates instructors can use the authentic method to help their clients reach the most functional levels available to them. • You will learn how to understand and see how global movement patterns may be deficient in certain developmental processes and how to use the system to help your client retrain and relearn how to move in an integrated whole. Joe’s Springs and Cuing on the Cadillac With Elaine Ewing: This workshop is designed to give you a deeper understanding of how Joe used his springs as well as how you can use his original exercises and cuing on the Cadillac to develop a more in-depth exploration of this apparatus as Joe intended it to be used. In this workshop we will: -learn a selection of Joe’s original exercises on the Cadillac along with his hands on cuing for these exercises. -practice teaching and doing the original exercises on 3 of Joe’s different airplane boards -Use springs replicated from Joe’s Original Cadillac springs to experience the feeling Joe intended for his exercises -Discuss Joe’s original Cadillac and how it compares it to the classical Cadillac we have today -See how the Developmental Sequence and Joe's work on the Cadillac correlate and help you understand the system better as a teacher as well as in your own practice To register for this workshop, please use paypal and make a payment of $250 directly to spgpt@pilates-studio-ny.com About Sean Gallagher: Sean P.
