I took pilates privately for a couple of years a long time ago, so these 10 sessions were really great and a reminder of how challenging pilates is. In particular, I couldn’t get out of the extended leg roll (most of the time because I started laughing too hard when I couldn’t roll back up) and my back kick does not feel right – are the knees supposed to be off the floor? I’m very slow and only get one kick per your three. As I dive into more basic practices, are there any in particular you would suggest? And are there any practices that focus on areas that tend to problem areas for men?

This was great, Alisa–thanks! Do you have any general recommendations or adjustments for a short person with short limbs?

Hi Kelly14! I’m guessing it’s difficult to reach your ankle during moves like Scissors (aka Single Straight Leg Stretch). If that’s what you’re asking about, it’s totally ok to reach lower on the leg instead. Let me know if that helps :).

Thanks, Alisa! Yes, reaching the ankles on various exercises is a big one, and your recommendation is exactly what I’ve been doing , so I’m glad to hear it!

It took me 2 months and 30 sessions (and a lot of repeated classes when i was not feeling able to progress) but i finally finished! There were things like the teaser and the corkscrew that I never though i was going to be able to do, but here I am. I really commend you Alisa on the pace of this series- perfect for a complete beginner like me. Thanks for taking the time to break it all down and build us up slowly. Now to explore some intermediate mat classes!

How did I miss the most amazing comment ever?! I’m so proud of you Wren, it’s a great accomplishment to work through all those skills and listen to your body as you’re doing it. Hope you’re enjoying lots more Pilates!
