Take a look at people who practice Pilates regularly and you’ll notice that they look younger than your average human. Pilates puts a fountain of youth inside you by regularly flushing your system of waste and toxins, stimulating your joints, strengthening the muscles that keep you tall and stretching out the parts that like to stiffen up. Niedra shows her own hands-on approach for elongate your spine. She’s quite vigorous with her student Sue (whom she has worked extensively with) but even when applied to a beginner, the principles are the same. This class moves through most exercises with detailed instruction and slows down a bit to teach a few crucial concepts related to reversing the rounding effect that gravity imposes on the body. This class was filmed at Mind2Body in Sherman Oaks, CA, where Niedra runs a Pilates Teacher Training Program. You can find Niedra’s complete teaching schedule at her website,

Thank you so much Elvy, how wonderful to work with an 83 year old and make a difference. Our senior community deserves so much respect and help and gradient exercise keeps them feeling wonderful. I am thrilled this video with Sue was so inpsirational for you.

I just read all the comments posted and thank you everyone – I am thrilled you enjoyed this workout with Sue. I am actually a champion of ” anti aging” as I have seen and experienced ( I am not a spring chicken myself) the profound reversal of aging phenomena that can occur with correct insightful work and life style) so it is really rewarding for me to have you all ” get it”.
Thank you – and hope you enjoy applying these concepts.

As an “older person,” I must say Niedra was spot on with what happens to the body as we age. The succint, clear cues she uses really hit home with me. I feel so good (the swan dive was a bit beyond my ability, but I tried). I stretched in every direction. I don’t have stall bars YET, but maybe soon…thank you, Alisa for your classes and those of the wonderful teachers you’ve brought together.

Niedra, you have done it again! Your insights are invaluable and love the firm, confident, and beneficial hands on. I am a believer! I wish there were a clone of you to assist me with my workouts.

Thank you Niedra for your explanations of what happens to the body as it ages and for your hard work with hands on teaching. I’ll be watching this video again!

Thank you for sharing the Romana stretches at the beginning and the end.
Really enjoy and appreciate this depth and quality of hands on teaching. It is like the pieces seen on the old archival footage of Joe working the student into the position he wanted. Hands on to feed our proprioceptive awareness.
Wondered for years about all the high kicking on the Side Kick series; now Niedra has INFORMED us they are cheating!
The detail Niedra brought out in the set up for the SWAN was truly exceptional. Not seen it taught like this before. This answers a lot of questions about why can’t I …….?
    Just to mention a few.
Thank you Niedra for sharing your outstanding skills, and PILATESOLOGY for making it possible.
